Hirotake Imanishi
Born in Nara Prefecture.
Completed the doctoral program at the Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Tsukuba.
Researched cancer and immune mechanisms centered on mitochondria.
After earning his doctorate, he studied at the Shiga Prefectural Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute and the Ishikawa Prefectural Kutani Pottery Technical Training Institute, before becoming an independent ceramic artist. Taking as his theme the proliferation of "cells" and "life energy" that moved him during his years as a researcher—along with their strength and dynamism—he creates works of self-expression, hybridizing his own custom-blended clay and glazes with techniques such as Kutani ware. His major recent exhibitions include 3331 ART FAIR and KOGEI Art Fair Kanazawa.
He is currently an assistant and part-time lecturer at Kanazawa College of Art.
