"SYNESTHESIA" — introducing artist Sugimoto Kenichi

Sugimoto Kenichi
From Hokkaido. Artist and designer.
Working under the concept "INSEPARABLE INSTINCT," he likens the instincts that lie dormant within us to animals. The raw instinct and boundless energy of childhood gradually fade as we grow up. Yet there are still moments when we are swept up by instinctive impulses — becoming emotional out of nowhere, or acting on sheer instinct. He depicts these wild instincts, which can never quite be cut away, by fusing human and animal.
Since 2020, alongside his design work, he began his career as an artist after publishing a picture book.

There are adorable animals here.

The way bright colors are set within the monochrome is wonderfully intriguing.

We warmly invite you to visit the gallery.

These are works you can enjoy all the more by imagining what kind of inner self each animal-spirit might possess! ✨
My favorite is "Banana juice over banana" — rather than sensing animal instinct in a human, here you sense the human in an animal, which I found utterly fascinating👀! (Kawahara)

"SYNESTHESIA"
For this exhibition we have gathered ten up-and-coming artists of wide-ranging sensibilities, in the hope that art might help each visitor refresh their senses and nurture new perspectives. The title "SYNESTHESIA" refers to a blending of the senses — perceiving color in letters or sounds, or form in taste or scent. Through the diverse expressions these ten artists weave together, we hope you will encounter something that resonates with what lies within you.
