猿が水面に映る月に手を伸ばし、最期は木から湖に落ちてしまう 「猿猴捉月」（えんこうそくげつ）は身の程をわきまえず、失敗することを意味する仏教の教えの物語です。 その物語を聞いたとき、私は新しい作品を作りたい自分と美しい光に思わず手を伸ばしたその猿につながりを感じ、 挑戦する心や、遠い夢に憧れる気持ちは決して愚かではないと思って制作しました。 隣り合う別世界に手を侵入させた猿は夢を実現させています。
