Tristan Wu Japan Solo Exhibition — Announcement
plus art co.,ltd (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Taku Nitta), which develops projects under the concept of enjoying art, is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Tristan Wu, opening on Monday, October 24, 2022 at +ART GALLERY on the 14th floor of Shibuya Scramble Square.

■PROFILE: Tristan Wu

Born in 1989 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Raised in Taiwan and the United Kingdom.
During his student years in Taiwan, out of a rebellious spirit against a culture that pushed children and students to their limits, and against the Taiwanese education system, he began drawing satirical skits.
Tristan Wu became a self-taught artist.
He draws inspiration from a strict, military-like family environment, China’s civil war, Taiwan’s religious beliefs, his experiences as a sportsman, and his exchanges between Europe and Asia.
Through fragmentary episodes of scenes of domination and rebellion, he recreates those moments with humor, blending joy and rage, building a world of conquerors led by Hysteric Mitch — a fictional character who is the champion of justice.
Taking on a variety of roles such as emperor, military commander, CEO, or rugby player, the hysteric state of this perfect anti-hero expresses our modern-day torments: war and memory, sport, technology, education, and more.
Tristan Wu pours overwhelming energy into his work.
True to his dual culture, his works powerfully interweave the cultural forms of Asia with the imagery of a globalized pop culture.
With his vivid, sincerity-filled and striking works, Tristan Wu astonishes us who stand within today’s figurative painting world.
