A special exhibition spotlighting the "ero-kawaii" side of manga artist Tatsuya Egawa's work! Shibuya Scramble Square presents the special exhibition "Ero-Kawaii Bishojo Exhibition"!

From Monday, February 27, 2023, +ART GALLERY presents a special exhibition selling reproduction prints and collaborative works by Tatsuya Egawa, a manga artist active from the 1980s through the 2000s! Don't miss the chance to acquire rare reproduction prints and pieces created in collaboration with up-and-coming contemporary artists and creators!

plus art co., ltd. (head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Taku Nitta), a company built around the theme of enjoying art, is pleased to announce that, together with Stella Casting Inc. (head office: Meguro-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Yasushi Tomonaga) — a Horipro Group Holdings company specializing in talent casting and event planning, production, and management — it will hold the special exhibition "Ero-Kawa Bishojo Exhibition" at +ART GALLERY on the 14th floor of Shibuya Scramble Square.

■ An exhibition focused on Tatsuya Egawa's "Ero-Kawa Bishojo"
The works of Tatsuya Egawa, who created hit manga from the 1980s through the 2000s, are characterized by their eroticism, and the girls who appear in them have great style and adorable looks. Drawn with a delicate touch, his rendering of emotion — joy, anger, sorrow, and delight — is especially striking. With their maternal warmth and openness about sexuality, his "cute girl characters" feel like idealized icons of male fantasy.

Today, with the resurgence of Showa- and Heisei-retro aesthetics going viral on social media, especially TikTok, demand for Egawa's work is rising once again. We are delighted to present this exhibition of the many slightly racy yet utterly charming girls from his signature works, including "Tokyo University Story," "GOLDEN BOY," "BE FREE!," and "The Tale of Genji," for many visitors to enjoy.

■ Highlights of the "Ero-Kawa Bishojo Exhibition"!

① Exhibition and sale of Tatsuya Egawa's reproduction prints

We carefully reviewed Tatsuya Egawa's past original artwork, selected pieces that epitomize the "Ero-Kawa Bishojo," scanned them at high resolution, and will offer a limited number of each work for sale (only 5 limited copies out of an edition of 30).

About 50 reproduction prints will be on display, making for a truly substantial and rewarding exhibition! Please take this opportunity to come see these precious works in person, and join the buzz on social media with #ErokawaBishojo!

② Collaborative works with up-and-coming Japanese contemporary artists
In addition to the original artwork of these many masterpieces, contemporary artists drew on their own distinctive styles and the inspiration of Tatsuya Egawa's work to create collaborative pieces. Please enjoy works in which each artist preserves their own creative voice while also evoking the world of Tatsuya Egawa.

<Biography>

His debut work was "BE FREE!," published in 1984.

From 1988, he serialized "Magical Taruruto-kun" in Weekly Shonen Jump. With cumulative sales of 12.6 million copies, the work was adapted into an anime in 1990 and became a hit, achieving a peak viewer rating of 20.3%. In 2016, a project titled "Taruruto-kun REBOOT!" — recreating in VR a world set several years after the original's final chapter — was launched and generated considerable attention.

In 1992, he began serializing "Tokyo University Story" in Big Comic Spirits. "Tokyo University Story" was a major hit, with cumulative sales exceeding 15 million copies, and was adapted into a TV drama in 1994. He has continued to deliver works to the world ever since, including the controversial "Yapoo, the Human Cattle" — which led to arrests — and "The Tale of Genji," based on a historically renowned classic.
