Description: This painting depicts the coastal scenery I encountered just after passing through a cave on a nature trail on Omijima Island, Yamaguchi Prefecture. I wanted to project my own suffering onto the hard, carved rocks and create a painting that looks out over the sea beyond.
The base is absorbent to give it a matte finish, and the paint is rubbed in to give it a moist texture. The sides are also treated so that the piece can be displayed without framing. Silver is used to represent the rocks.
