作品の制作手順はほとんど決まっている。まず、木枠を組み立て、麻布を張る。膠を引き、地塗りする。地塗りはあえてその痕跡を残す。そして、キャンバスを平置きにしたまま、油絵具を薄く均一に乗せる。地塗りの微妙な厚みの差によって、絵具の染み込む具合が変化したり、変色が生じたりして、その痕跡が露わになる。移ろう画面を眺めながら、そこに何かが立ち現れるまで、絵具を乗せては拭き取ることを繰り返す。流動するイメージは、やがてどこかに辿り着く。そうして、世界の一部として編み上げられた風景は、その在り方を自ら提示する。
About the Artwork
地塗りを施す際に生まれたかすれによって、夜の海の水面や反射する光が現れている。刷毛を軽く滑らせることで生じるかすれは、力の加減や速度、塗料の濃度や量などによって微妙に変化する。そうして生まれた揺らぎは、物質とイメージの間を行き来し、見る者の中に風景を映しだす。
