作品の制作手順はほとんど決まっている。まず、木枠を組み立て、麻布を張る。膠を引き、地塗りする。地塗りはあえてその痕跡を残す。そして、キャンバスを平置きにしたまま、油絵具を薄く均一に乗せる。地塗りの微妙な厚みの差によって、絵具の染み込む具合が変化したり、変色が生じたりして、その痕跡が露わになる。移ろう画面を眺めながら、そこに何かが立ち現れるまで、絵具を乗せては拭き取ることを繰り返す。流動するイメージは、やがてどこかに辿り着く。そうして、世界の一部として編み上げられた風景は、その在り方を自ら提示する。
About the Artwork
古くから地塗りに用いられている白亜は、油分を含むことで白から灰がかった薄茶色へと変色する。この作品では、刷毛跡を残した白亜地に油絵具を乗せることで、変色によるイメージの生成を試みている。繰り返される刷毛跡と微妙な色調の変化によって、柔らかな草原を思わせる風景が現れている。
