HOLBEIN ART FAIR 2022 1st-week artist Kotaro Inoue

井上光太郎
In my work, while using motifs such as people, houses, and trees, I turn my eye toward the "darkness" that lies beyond what is physically visible. The darkness I refer to here is not simply the color black, but something like a presence drifting within a scene — easily overlooked at a glance. I feel that this darkness does not merely instill awe; at times it gently accompanies a person's solitude.

[Staff Comment]
Inoue's works, said to depict darkness, give off a distinctive atmosphere — even a slightly damp, humid air. Within that darkness, each work carries its own sense of narrative, and as you wonder just what kind of place this is and what is happening, you may find yourself drawn deep into the piece. Please come and experience Inoue's wonderful, immersive works in person at least once ✨✨ (Nagaya)
