At first glance, it is a pop piece that catches your eye with its bright orange color, but there is a deeper story behind it.
Her inspiration came from the powerful color of mandarins that she felt during the cremation of her great-grandmother. While everything turned gray during the cremation, the mandarins in the coffin turned wine red, retaining their color even after death.
From this experience, I felt that the orange color of mandarins had a sense of strength and life.
As a result, SAKAMOTO's works are not just orange art, but are created to evoke the power of life through the familiar motifs of "oranges" and "mandarin oranges."
The orange peels used in the Orange Peel Piece series are seasonal and can only be produced during certain periods , so they are tanned (preserved). Their enthusiasm for research is something that is unique to SAKAMOTO ENTERTAINMENT.
As for where the mandarin oranges are from, after trying a variety, they apparently use those from Ehime, which have the best color and skin texture.
Like some kind of letter, like a person, The silhouettes of the parts that stimulate the viewer's imagination are all the same shape that would be created if a mandarin orange were peeled, and the combinations are truly endless!

Born in Kumamoto Prefecture in 1997. Graduated from the Department of Integrated Design at Tama Art University.
He studies materials, looks at things from new perspectives, and incorporates them into design and art. He was a finalist in the muni art award 2022. He was selected for Art Olympia 2022.
