Keisuke Katsuki

Introducing Keisuke Katsuki, an artist featured in HOLBEIN ART FAIR 2022 — 2nd

Keisuke Katsuki

My painting practice centers on what I call "pixel painting": I reconstruct an image displayed on a monitor purely through its display structure — that is, through the red, green and blue components (pixels) alone. The source images are drawn mainly from paintings by Monet and Turner. By summoning the work of these celebrated painters of light onto the monitor (a luminous image), a product of modern optical technology, and then painting that image, I aim to rethink vision and light as we experience them today.

The whole piece is styled like a computer screen 💻 — very cool

Rouen Cathedral is depicted here 🌟

Looking closely reveals a completely different way of seeing — a fascinating work!

[Staff Comment]

Painted with a limited, fixed palette, these pixel paintings give the curious sensation of viewing the work through a special lens!
"Pixel painting" refers to Katsuki's signature method of breaking an image's luminance down into RGB and physically replacing it with custom-mixed paints!
The beautiful gradations rendered in tiny pixels are utterly captivating ✨✨
