この作品は、伝統と現代のシンボルを融合させた強烈なビジュアル表現を通じて、“笑顔”という普遍的なモチーフを問い直しています。 仏教的な光背を思わせる黄金の装飾は、悟りや神聖さを象徴しながらも、その中央に浮かぶのはシンプルなスマイリーフェイス。 それは「悟り」と「幸福」の関係を皮肉っているのか、あるいは、どんな状況でも笑顔を保つことこそが真の悟りであると示唆しているのか——その解釈は観る者に委ねられています。 額に描かれた三つの点は、仏教における第三の眼を想起させますが、それが霊的な目覚めを意味するのか、あるいは偽りの印なのかは定かではありません。 この「笑顔」は、純粋な幸福の象徴なのか、それとも社会に押し付けられた仮面なのか。 「Smile」とは何か——本当の微笑みとは何なのか。 これは悟りなのか、それとも仮面なのか。 観る者自身に問いかける作品です。
