Black Maitake Mushroom

In creating my artworks, I carefully observe and understand ingredients, handle them, and paint them after gaining a deeper understanding of them, thereby expressing my respect and gratitude for them in a way other than eating them. When I obtain the ingredients, I take photos of them in their freshest state, cook them, and then paint them after eating them. I also incorporate parts of the ingredients into my paintings to include the meaning of "requiem" for the ingredients that sacrificed their lives. By covering the surface of the paintings with epoxy resin (a two-part synthetic resin), the viewer's figure is reflected against the black background and appears to overlap with the figure of the ingredients, expressing how the ingredients are digested and absorbed and become part of our body. Although the ingredients disappear when we eat them, I convey through my artworks that they become a part of our bodies and continue to exist.
