Description of the work: This work focuses on the massive amount of waste caused by the fast fashion industry and aims to develop the characteristics of discarded clothing as art pieces. Fast fashion specializes in being cheap, so it uses thin, low-quality fabrics, and many items lose their shape after being worn just a few times. Through observation, I noticed that the fabric swells in areas that have lost their shape after use, giving the garment the appearance of being enveloped in air, like a plaster statue wrapped in cloth. I decided to take advantage of this property and solidify it while maintaining its shape, to create a semi-three-dimensional art piece, similar to a plaster sculpture.
Using a technique called casting, I create my pieces by making molds out of discarded clothing in silicone and pouring in epoxy resin.
