「大きな権力を手にした者（あるいは、手にしてしまった者）」の孤独や悲しみ、悲劇性をテーマにした絵です。2020年に制作した《The Book of Drops ―からっぽバケツのブルース―》という「本」の形態をした絵画作品の中で描いたイメージを油彩で描き起こしました。 両手にバケツを抱えて涙を流すこの人物が、いったい何を想い、何をしてしまったのかーー？観る人それぞれの「物語」を投影していただければ幸いです。もともと和紙に水溶性絵具で描いたイメージを、木製パネルに油絵具で描き起こしました。絵の具は、ホルベインの高品位油絵具『ヴェルネ』を使用しており、油彩特有の艶のある透明感が生まれました。油絵具ならではの質感を持った「層」の重なりは、悲しき王の物語を一層深みのあるものにしてくれたように思います。
Additional Information
This painting is based on the theme of the loneliness, sadness, and tragedy of those who hold (or have held) great power. The image is an oil painting of a book-shaped painting I created in 2020 called The Book of Drops: Empty Bucket Blues. What on earth is this person crying and holding a bucket in both hands thinking, and what has he done? I hope that each viewer will project their own "story" into the work.
The image, originally painted with water-soluble paints on washi paper, was then repainted on a wooden panel with oil paints. Holbein's high-quality oil paint "Vernet" was used for the paint, which gave the piece a glossy transparency that is unique to oil painting. The overlapping "layers" with the texture unique to oil paints seem to add even more depth to the story of the sad king.
