An exhibition that takes you back in time to see the changes and transformations over the past 15 years of artists from the "Aroud 2010s" generation at Tokyo University of the Arts who are still active today
Plus Art Co., Ltd. (English: plus art co.,ltd., location: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, representative: Taku Nitta), which operates a business based on the theme of enjoying contemporary art, will hold a special exhibition "TIME SLIP Around 2010s - Tokyo University of the Arts Edition" at Tokyu Plaza Shibuya 3F +ART GALLERY from February 5, 2024, which studies the evolution of artists' works by comparing new and old works and enjoys what has changed and what has remained the same.
After three years of operating a gallery on the 14th floor of Shibuya Scramble Square in the heart of Shibuya, +ART GALLERY will be expanding to the 3rd floor of Tokyu Plaza Shibuya in Shibuya Fukuras, a new commercial facility in Shibuya. +ART GALLERY will continue to hold special exhibitions with the aim of increasing the number of people who enjoy art collections and supporting the careers of artists.
Learn about the artist's past and assess the current value of their work
The artists participating this time are graduates of Tokyo University of the Arts, and are currently active in various ways, selling their works. With the recent rise of the art market, I think many of them have recently entered the industry. I think that while we often look at the works of artists to capture their "now", this exhibition will allow us to see how their works have changed or remained unchanged while also simultaneously exhibiting their past works, which I think will convey their appeal even more.
The scars of his past worries and deep thoughts are the foundation of his current work, and even his way of life is reflected in his work. I hope you will enjoy his work with this side in mind.
Participating Artists
Shota Nakatsugawa / Yuuo Yamada / Ai Sano / Natsuki Itagaki / Kanshin Imai / Mao Kanai
Shota Nakatsugawa
Fascinated by traditional crafts, he taught himself Japanese painting and succeeded in incorporating graffiti images. He incorporates silkscreen techniques, which are rare in the Japanese painting world, and has produced works that can be used worldwide. By incorporating modern art into Japanese culture, where traditional crafts are being lost, he has gained tremendous support from all quarters for creating works that are suited to the current era.
Recently, he has had successful exhibitions at the Ueno Royal Museum, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and Nidai Museum of Art, and in October 2019 he also had a successful exhibition at the Louvre in Paris.
2013 Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Crafts, Majoring in Lacquerware
Ai Sano
Born in Tokyo in 1989. Using the texture and mass of marble, he brings to life invisible things such as dragons and mythical beasts. In addition, he continues to pursue primitive beauty in his Python series, which is developed by thoroughly playing with the potential of marble in terms of color, pattern, and texture.
2016 Completed Sculpture Department, Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts
Natsuki Itagaki
Born in Argentina in 1990, she grew up in Tokyo from the age of one. Her parents were veterinarians, so she grew up feeling close to animals from an early age. She loved drawing animals from an early age, and still creates artworks with animals and living creatures as motifs. She also tries to depict fantasy worlds rather than the real world, and express the preciousness and sanctity of life. She used to create picture books, and this influenced her to include stories in her works, making them feel like a mysterious fantasy worldview or a scene from a story. She mainly uses natural materials such as Japanese painting materials, washi paper, natural pigments, and gold leaf for her works. She believes that the texture of the paint and leaf enhances the sanctity of her works.
2016 Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting, Japanese Painting Major
2018: Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Fine Arts, Master's degree in Japanese painting
Yamada Yuuo
Since I began my career as an artist in 2009, I have continued my work on the theme of "tsukumogami."
Tsukumogami is a uniquely Japanese concept that says that life resides in objects that have existed for a long time.
There are many famous tsukumogami that appear in yokai picture scrolls, such as the lantern ghost, Nurikabe, and Ichi-ichi Momen, but I believe that this concept is merely an ancient yokai told in folklore, and I continue to create works that make them feel familiar to us in the modern day, as beings that live right next to us.
2016 Graduated from the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, majoring in design
Kanai Mao
Her themes are mainly plants and animals, such as creatures she encounters on her travels, familiar flowers and birds, and animal fables, and she creates her pieces using a variety of techniques, including traditional lacquer art techniques such as maki-e, raden, and flat patterning, while pursuing decorative expression.

2015: Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate School of Fine Arts, Department of Lacquer Art

He is based in Kyoto and Hiroshima and has since begun his career as an artist. Masamasa Imai creates sophisticated ceramic works by uniquely blending traditional and contemporary influences. His creations are the result of a time-consuming and laborious process, with each piece bearing testament to the countless hours of meticulous planning and execution.
