Concept & Series

Artwork Description
He depicts a bright world where the scenery from faded and ambiguous memories are reconstructed with a unique touch and color. People remember the mental and physical experiences they have had as memories of the past. And while people live in the present, moving toward the future, they also live with the various memories of the past. It is difficult to live without these memories, and I believe that the past is an important element in the process of living. While painful, difficult, and bad things tend to remain stronger in these memories, they can also be romanticized as a form of self-defense. Reality, ideals, fantasy, hope, despair, and other emotions are all mixed together, and the boundaries between them are unclear. Some people say, "Don't look back," "Forget about the past," or "Look only forward (to the future)." However, people are attached to the past because they exist in the present, including the good and the bad, and because they make various choices toward a better future based on their past experiences. Therefore, the experiences and experiences that we have had, that is, whatever "past" they may have, are valuable in living toward the future. Also, memories of the past can always be changed or altered at any time according to our own convenience, depending on our thoughts and environment, so it is important to conveniently interpret the past as something meaningful and valuable, even if only a little, in order to open up a wonderful future. By incorporating such various attachments to the past and restructuring it by adding new things such as beautifying the "past" and ideals for the "present," and hope for the "future," the message is that "the meaning and value of the past can be changed depending on who we are in the future." The works I create are based on memories of the past and on the nostalgic landscapes of Japan, but by using things that shouldn't be there, things that shouldn't exist, using colors that don't exist, and changing the scale of the things I draw, I depict a utopia that connects the past to the present, and from the present to the future, combining a worldview and a sense of the future that doesn't actually exist. I hope that by looking at the paintings and looking back at the past while overlapping them with my own memories, I can help people to think about their own ideals in the present and have new hopes for the future. I would also like you to pay attention to the unique sense of color and the quality of the paints and other drawing materials.
The reason why I choose rural landscapes as my motif is because I have a nostalgia and an attachment to past memories. I feel sad that forests, tiled roofs, local train lines, etc. are gradually disappearing as time goes on, and I want to paint them while I can and capture the things that are disappearing (the past) in my paintings. In addition, I have used a composition that emphasizes roads, but the roads that people, cars, and animals have walked on are not asphalt but mostly dirt, and the traces that are left by being stepped on and left behind of "being there in the past" represent time. With the intention of building a new world that contains peace and happiness, I have added things that feel unnatural to the rural landscape, such as balloons and animals. I also believe that the balloons have the role of transporting time, and I put my hope for the future, that we move from the "past" to the "(good) future."
