Kiyoo Ota

“SYNESTHESIA” introduces the artist Kiyoo Ota

Kiyoo Ota

After studying architecture, he joined a foreign investment bank, driven by a wish to better society through economics. Having lived through the financial crisis, he turned to art out of a desire to create works that would endure forever, even beyond his own death. Using devices such as optical illusion, perspective and moiré, he creates three-dimensional works that break down preconceptions and offer viewers a sudden moment of realization.

Perspective square

Stainless steel, polyamide
H350 × W350 × D40 (mm)
2022

A work made with the wish that we might face our stifling everyday lives a little more positively. It appears to have depth, yet through the principles of perspective and optical illusion it is in fact extremely thin.

[Installation Views]

Depending on the viewing angle, the overlapping of lines and the sense of space shift and change.
A wonderfully intricate and beautiful work.
Please do come and see it for yourself.

[Staff Comment]

You may find yourself drawn into the mysterious charm created by the overlapping lines. The work shows a different face depending on the angle from which you view it, and you can also sense materials rarely encountered in everyday life. Please take the time to experience Ota's work. (Konda)
