■About NOMA

From Monday, May 8, 2023, we will be holding an exhibition of the "Contemporary Man_ 21st Century's Mona Lisa" series, inviting artist "NOMA" based in Korea and the United Kingdom.

NOMA is an artist based in South Korea who primarily uses oil paint to create her paintings.

He has been presenting works mainly in ``Contemporary Man_ 21st Century's Mona Lisa'', and has shown works not only in Korea but also in the EU and other countries. In addition, his works, such as those produced in collaboration with famous groups, are becoming difficult to obtain worldwide.

Although he uses oil paint to create his works, he uses unique production methods such as using a gas burner.

■About "Contemporary Man_ 21st Century's Mona Lisa"

His series title refers to "Mona Lisa" and depicts us in the present day (21st century) . Photography technology did not exist at the time Leonardo da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa, so he was able to capture the natural world's light, shadows, shapes, facial expressions, and beauty. We made careful observations and conducted detailed research. In addition, in pursuit of freedom of artistic expression, we have struck a balance between realism and artistic expression. NOMA, like da Vinci, expresses the ``inner reality'' of 21st century humans in its paintings.

By presenting it as a 21st century (modern) Mona Lisa, he aims to portray the inner world of humans in the same way that Da Vinci did.

His works have received high praise not only for their concepts but also for their expressiveness and quality as works of art.

■STATEMENT BY NOMA

"Contemporary Man_ 21st Century's Mona Lisa"

In order to live universally, we may hide our true selves.

It's like wearing a thick coat even in the summer heat.
Sometimes we wander and forget who we are and why we are breathless in this space.

For modern people, yearning for a future they have never experienced or wishing to have hope through artificial, unreal light (such as LED lights) is like a mirage in the desert, and it is difficult to realize it in reality. Not the target.

Also, although it is difficult for landscape painters to depict the human form, they are able to express the essential desires and feelings of modern people through landscape paintings.

Painters who paint night scenes desire complete darkness.
They depict unexpressed human emotions and depict complex landscapes that are difficult to express.

Isn't that because people (their emotions) are being overlooked, which cannot be captured just by drawing landscapes?

By painting not only landscapes but also unexpressed human emotions, you can express the essence of modern people.

This is the starting point for the ``Contemporary Man_ 21st Century's Mona Lisa'' series.

The inner world of a person cannot be captured with the naked eye, but artists use their own words to depict their explosive energy.
Emotions evoked in an instant can reach an abyss that cannot be defined in words.
The expression may be dust flying through the air or a blob of acrylic paint firmly fixed to the canvas.

■Comment by NOMA

I'm NOMA, an artist/artist working in Korea.
I express the hidden emotions that cannot be expressed in our lives as modern people using the reality of the characters and a unique method.

I am NOMA, as artist based in Korea. Through my works, I express the hidden emotions that we cannot easily show in our daily lives as contemporary individuals, using the unique approach of portraying emotions with a sense of reality.

I want people who look at my work to feel a small hidden emotion within themselves, a small but honest emotion, even if it's just for 30 seconds.

I hope that those who view my works can feel the small hidden emotions within themselves, as well as the sincere and subtle emotions, even if it is just for 30 seconds in front of my artworks.
