[Author introduction] Aika Furukawa
Introducing Aika Furukawa, the 2nd artist of HOLBEIN ART FAIR 2022
Aika Furukawa
Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts (Department of Oil Painting) in 2008.
From 2012 to 2015, he stayed in Germany under the artist overseas training program from the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Pola Art Foundation.
Since 2015, we have received numerous grants from Belgium, Germany, and Japan.
Currently active in Tokyo, Leipzig, and Brussels.
The main motifs that I have been drawing since 2007 are the "wrinkles in cloth" such as ripped-off futons and pillows, which are taken from real everyday life. “Wrinkles” naturally occur all around us. I would like to combine these "wrinkles" and create a world that has never been seen before. In addition, by creating installations such as hanging transparent paintings in the exhibition hall, we draw the viewer into the work. “Wrinkles” are constantly changing, creating light and shadow, and no two shapes are the same.

Mr. Furukawa's works are delicately drawn with the texture of the motifs, giving them a three-dimensional feel!
Would you like to see this work in action?
The color gradation in the shadows is very beautiful, giving it an elegant atmosphere that is soothing when you look at it✨
