この作品は、長年取り組んでいる「招き猫シリーズ」の中の一作です。猫という存在は、世界的に見ても人との関係が古く、新石器時代には農耕を守るために人間とともに暮らしていたとされています。時に神聖視され、時に恐れられる猫は、人間の精神性や信仰と密接に関わってきた存在です。日本においては、招き猫が「願いの対象」として広く信仰を集めてきました。 本作では、そうした猫と人との長い関係性を背景に、招き猫を通して「カオスの中にある美」を描き出しています。モチーフとなったのは、1980〜90年代に自らの美意識や想像力を育んだアニメやゲーム作品、とりわけ『ビックリマン』の世界観です。多様な宗教的キャラクターが混在するその混沌とした世界に感じた美しさは、まさにアニミズム的であり、日本の宗教観とも重なります。作品ではその混沌の美を、放射状に輝く光と無数の星を通して、象徴的に表現しました。
About the Artwork
本作では、画面の中央に象徴的な招き猫を配置し、その背後から放射線状に広がる光を描くことで、招き猫そのものを太陽のような存在として扱いました。これは願いを受け止め、放つ存在としての招き猫の象徴性を強調する意図があります。 また、全体に星を散りばめることで、ポジティブなエネルギーと“過剰さ”を演出しています。制作の過程で星を重ねていくうちに、徐々に下に描かれた招き猫の姿が薄れ、絵の中の世界と現実の世界の境界が溶け合っていくような感覚を得ました。その様子は、無限に広がる宇宙を感じさせ、絵画という形式そのものを超えていくような、象徴的な体験でもありました。 このように本作は、個人的な記憶、文化的背景、日本的アニミズム、そしてビジュアル文化が融合することで生まれた、新たな“祈り”のかたちを示す試みでもあります。
