Born 1990 in Osaka, Japan. Based in Tokyo.
At first glance the imagery appears naive and pop, yet because Maeda suffered an intense childhood trauma surrounding "death," glimpses of life and death—and of the contradictions and inner conflicts of living—run through every work.
Through comical expression, the artist continues to depict even the issues people find too difficult to confront head-on, seeking to accept and transcend them. Working mainly in painting, Maeda is now expanding into murals for corporate offices and into apparel.
