オオヤサヤカ

An introduction to Sayaka Oya, an artist featured in The Collage Exhibition 2nd.

・Sayaka Oya

A painter with a love for games, anime, and lemons.

While working as an apparel designer, she continued to paint and went independent as an artist in 2015.
Taking social themes as her subject, she often delights in depicting landscapes, plants, and the human figure.
As a child, immersed in archaeology and history through her father's influence, she duly came down with a case of "chunibyo" (adolescent self-importance).
She seemed to grow out of it upon entering high school, but influenced by game character design and anime artwork, a few lingering aftereffects shaped the style she works in today.
From mural painting for offices to live painting at music festivals, she is energetically active across Japan and abroad, centered on Tokyo. Her work spans a wide range, including artwork for films and dramas, art supervision, and appearances in commercials.

How to feel of beauty

Having chosen a life's work tied to art, I want to engage with society little by little, so that it may become even a bit easier to live in. As social media has made it possible for anyone to step into the spotlight, it sometimes feels that, no matter how much we champion "diversity," the chances of being hurt have also grown. I see my role as broadening perspectives even a little, so that we can fit into society without living in fear — gradually changing how we think, myself included.
