1. Profile

Artist: Kenichiro Fukumoto

Profile:

Born in Hiroshima Prefecture in 1986. Completed his MFA at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts in 2014. He is now based in Tokyo, creating paintings and sculptures.

Drawing inspiration from the forms and colors of natural-history encyclopedias across eras and cultures, tapestries of various peoples, microorganisms of the soil and sea, and the houseplants around him, he creates while reflecting on the relationship between humanity's age-old works of creation and nature.
In recent years he has incorporated old paper and washi into his paintings, and combined different materials and textures in his sculptures — weathered wood such as driftwood and reclaimed timber, alongside ceramics he forms and fires from clay he kneads himself.

3. Why We Recommend

Plants and creatures of many colors are depicted, giving the works a distinctive ethnic atmosphere.

Every piece carries a weight that feels steeped in history, and there's something curiously soothing about looking at them ✨

Recommended for those with a calm, composed kind of room!
