[Exhibition] Ryoichi Oka Solo Exhibition opens June 24, 2024

plus art co.,ltd (English: plus art co.,ltd; based in Shibuya, Tokyo; represented by Taku Nitta), a company built around the idea of enjoying contemporary art, presents a solo exhibition by Ryoichi Oka, opening June 24, 2024 at +ART GALLERY, 3F Tokyu Plaza Shibuya.

ABOUT Exhibition

Working primarily with silk, dyes, and silver leaf, he uses yuzen dyeing — a traditional craft technique of dyeing and weaving — to create two-dimensional paintings, taking as his motifs the scenery he sees in everyday life and the moods and views he senses around him.

"After a long while, I felt I wanted to make work again, and so I have resumed my practice.
To those around me I would say it was not that I had stopped making things — only that I had no time, that work kept me busy. Ashamed of myself for having let more than fifteen years pass while making such excuses, I left my job when the COVID restrictions lifted, and over these past few months I have set up a place to work and managed to produce and present a few pieces.

As things stand, I am still only making what I myself want to make and want to have, so it may not yet be something fit to show you all; still, I would be glad if you would view it with a kind smile.

I look forward to meeting you all at the venue."
