plus art co.,ltd (English: plus art co.,ltd; based in Shibuya, Tokyo; represented by Taku Nitta), a company built around the idea of enjoying contemporary art, joins forces with Holbein Art Materials Inc. (based in Higashiosaka, Osaka; represented by Yoshio Kawami), a world-renowned art-materials maker with over 120 years of history, to present "HOLBEIN ART FAIR 2024," opening May 13, 2024 at +ART GALLERY, 3F Tokyu Plaza Shibuya.
The concept of the exhibition is "Possibility of painting."
What is the "HOLBEIN ART FAIR"?
Holbein, the leading comprehensive art-materials maker in Japan, launched the "Holbein Scholarship," a program supporting young artists, in 1986, reaching its 36th edition in 2023.
This scholarship has produced internationally active artists such as Takashi Murakami and O JUN, and to this day it remains a gateway for emerging artists.
"HOLBEIN ART FAIR" has been co-organized with Holbein since 2021 under the direction of +ART GALLERY. It grew out of the fact that "while the scholarship supports artists by providing art materials (such as paints) equivalent to a grant, until now there had been no dedicated venue to present their work." The fair was thus created to support its scholarship artists by bringing them together to present their "current" work.
Now in its third edition, the lineup is wonderfully varied: it features not only the most recent 35th (2022) and 36th (2023) scholarship artists, but also scholars from the 2000s.
