Introduction

Bring art into your home for a stylish room!

You've carefully chosen the chairs, the table, the lighting to create a stylish room, yet something still feels a little empty. Sound familiar?

When that happens, why not bring a piece of art into your space?
Beyond serving as an accent, it lets you express your own personality and makes your room look even more beautiful.

But once you set out to hang a stylish painting or artwork, it can be hard to know what to base your choice on.

In this article, we'll walk you through how to choose art that suits your interior, along with tips for displaying it.

Read on and even a complete beginner is sure to find an approach they can put into practice right away.

Why not give your room a more beautiful feel and start enjoying a life with art?

Three keys to choosing art you won't regret

When you go to choose a piece of art, do you ever find yourself unsure what to base your decision on?

In fact, simply keeping “where you'll display it,” “size,” and “harmony with your interior” in mind can make your space dramatically more stylish.

Think about the focal point and watch your room's whole impression change!

First, look around your room and consider where to hang the piece.

In interior design, setting a focal point to give the space a sense of rhythm helps balance the whole room and makes a stylish space far easier to achieve.

A focal point refers to a piece of furniture, a light fixture, or the like that naturally draws the eye.

When you display art, we recommend using it as that focal point.

Balance it through how you display it and the size you choose!

Generally, deciding first whether to go with a single-focus display of just one piece or a gallery-style arrangement of several makes it much easier to picture the finished look of your interior.

A large work in the “single-focus” style

It sets the mood of the room in an instant.
For a tall wall, choose a vertical piece; for a wide wall, a horizontal one. This keeps the balance and creates a sense of unity.

A smaller work in the “single-focus” style

It can blend quietly into the room or serve as an accent. Choosing a piece with attention to its colors and the presence of its frame makes it easy to incorporate into your interior.

The “gallery” style

This is a style of grouping several works together.
Lining up smaller pieces creates a wonderfully stylish space.

Think about harmony with your interior!

Once you have an image of where and what size to display, the next key is considering what kind of mood the piece should have. Here, harmony with the interior you already have matters a great deal.

Choose works in colors you love or with motifs you're drawn to, matched to the mood of your room!

Tips for displaying a painting beautifully

If you're going to display a lovely piece of art, you'll want an arrangement that looks as stylish as possible.
In fact, there's a “rule for looking beautiful” when it comes to hanging paintings!

And that is to use eye level as your guide!

When you hang art, positioning it so the center of the piece sits at eye level (about 140–150 cm)
makes it look well balanced.
This is the same method used in museums and galleries; it naturally draws the eye and blends easily into your interior.

Since hanging art at home offers a different way of viewing than a gallery does, matching the eye-level position to your everyday life makes it easier to keep the balance right.

When hanging it above a sofa → think of eye level while seated (about 100–120 cm).

When hanging it near a bed or desk → match it to your line of sight while in use.

Three-dimensional works belong in your interior too!

When we hear “art,” we tend to picture paintings, but three-dimensional works such as sculptures and art objects are an important part of an interior that brings a space to life.

Adding three-dimensional pieces lets you bring in depth, texture, and personality, creating a more refined space!

If “placing a large sculpture or object feels too difficult,” we suggest starting with a small object or an item that's easy to display. Pairing it with a smaller painting looks stylish, too!

In closing

Bringing art into your interior adds personality and charm to a space!
By choosing with the display location, size, and harmony with your interior in mind, you can create a stylish, comfortable space.
Do bring in art that feels like you, and enjoy creating a wonderful room!
