In addition, I was conscious of the presence of the wooden panel as an object, in contrast to the lightness of the transferred image, so I filled the wood with putty and sanded it, creating a part that becomes a frame in a sense as part of the work.

About the image: I used a poster I made myself (which references the eyes of Mima, the protagonist in Satoshi Kon's "Perfect Blue") that I had left as a material in my studio without turning it into a work of art, and a page from an advertisement in a magazine called LIFE from several decades ago that I picked up at random from my bookshelf. As it is a magazine, it naturally has a back side, so by transferring it and leaving some parts to be peeled off and others to be left in place, the front and back sides are visible. The back side is an advertisement page for some product with a child's face on it, and the front side (not much left as it has been almost completely peeled off) is thought to be an advertisement page with a picture of a glass. As the title suggests, this work represents coordination using junk items. Because I transferred junk items, I was able to carve it out as if I was painting with a brush, blurring the boundary between the paper and the wood.

Why do we do complex things? By doing complex things, we can see how the properties of things are balanced, how they give an impression, and how they break (or change into something else). We can also see or find expressions of the stages in which things change.

The order of production is to apply medium to the surface of the plywood, press the junk onto it → when the medium is completely dry, peel off the back of the junk to reveal the printed surface → attach a wooden frame → carve → process the texture of the screen with medium (including mixing paint) → putty (including mixing paint) on the sides and process the texture by sanding. Putty is a common building material that becomes invisible once the piece is finished, but I purposely use it on the sides as part of the work (part of the paint). I also mix paint into the putty to add color.

■Details

Author: Tomomi Taoka

Production year: 2024

Edition: 1

Size: H530mm x W381mm x D45mm (mm)

Material: Acrylic, putty and paper on wood panel

Delivery time: Approximately 2 weeks to 1 month after the end of the event

Handling: PlusArt Co., Ltd.

■ Regarding shipping fees

All shipping charges for artworks sold at +ART Online Gallery are cash on delivery. For this drawing book, I used a cutter, glue, masking tape, and acrylic paint, and took advantage of the nature of magazines (that is, when you cut and paste, the action affects another page), which allowed me to easily add other images or modify the original image. I then scanned the image of any double-page spread that I had created by cutting and pasting, and when I looked at it as a single image (digital image), I deleted unnecessary text information from the magazine, unnecessary shine and distortions from the magazine, and also filled in any missing parts during correction, creating a single "picture." The transferred image in this work is that single "picture" and data.

Why do we do complex things? Putty is a common building material that becomes invisible once the finish is applied, but I deliberately use it on the sides as part of the work (part of the paint). I also mixed paint into the putty to add color. I sand it finely so that the poster and the veneer are integrated, so that there is no sense of a step between the transferred screen and the veneer surface. Also, when I peel off the transferred paper, I do not peel it off completely, but rather leave the white paper partially as a texture.

■Details

Author: Tomomi Taoka

Production year: 2024

Edition: 1

Size: H900mm x W600mm x D45mm (mm)

Material: Acrylic, putty and paper on wood panel

Delivery time: Approximately 2 weeks to 1 month after the end of the event

Handling: PlusArt Co., Ltd.

■ Regarding shipping fees

All shipping charges for artworks sold at +ART Online Gallery are cash on delivery.
