天文機器とは、頭上に広がる天体と、地上の一点に立つ自分とを照らし合わせ、
自身の現在時と現在地を導き出すための道具である。
本作は、時間とともに見た目が変化する。青い色彩は、太陽の光に含まれる紫外線にさらすことで発色する、
サイア ノタイプという写真技法の応用による。
作品は制作後もわずかながら光の影響を受けて、画面の一部が青さを増して深い紺色となり、
あるいは褪せて黄変する。そのことによって、描かれた天文機器のかたちは刻々 と姿を変えていく。
天体の観測から時と位置を知るように、観者は作品上に残された変化の痕跡を観察して、
絵を見つめる自分自身の 「現在時・現在地」を感じとるだろう。
