この作品は、長年描き続けている「招き猫」シリーズの一環として制作されたものでありながら、これまでの表現形式とは異なるアプローチを取っています。キャンバスという“枠”を排し、キャラクターそのものを木の板から切り出すことで、作品と空間、作品と鑑賞者との「境界線」を曖昧にしようとする試みです。 モチーフである招き猫は、日本において願いや祈りの象徴として長く親しまれてきた存在であり、私にとっては“自画像”のような存在でもあります。そのキャラクターをあえて平面の絵画空間から解放し、輪郭ごと切り出すことで、作品が現実の空間へと歩み出すような存在感を持ち始めます。それは、現代においてアートが持つべき“開かれた関係性”を問いかける一つの形でもあります。
About the Artwork
本作では、通常のキャンバスを用いず、木の板に直接描き、それをキャラクターの形に沿って切り出すという技法を採用しています。彫刻とも絵画とも異なるこの中間的な手法により、作品は“平面”という領域から外れ、展示空間そのものとの関係性を持ち始めます。 木の素材特有の厚みや質感を活かしながら、あえてフレームを設けないことで、鑑賞者との距離が縮まり、視線や身体の動きによって作品の見え方が変化することを意図しています。また、“切り取る”という行為自体も、絵画の慣習的な枠組みを外す象徴的なジェスチャーとなっています。 この作品は、絵画でも彫刻でもない「境界の上にある表現」を通して、見る者の感覚に新たな問いを投げかけると同時に、私自身の表現領域を拡張する試みでもあります。
