From Monday, March 6 to Sunday, March 12, 2023, +ART GALLERY on the 14th floor of Shibuya Scramble Square presents "LIBERTY OF WoVE - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY ART EXHIBITION — My Great Women —," an art exhibition held in celebration of International Women's Day. ("LIBERTY OF WoVE" is a coined word combining "Woman" and "Move.")

Centering on the theme of "women who take action," eight artists—including the exhibition's founder (ANZU / Oharu / KATHMI / dolly / Karin Nakamori / Narcolepsy1999 / Whitetail / Moeco)—present works that express the personal "facets" of the remarkable women, past and present, who have shaped their own lives.

We believe that learning not only of the successes these remarkable women achieved in their careers and in society, but also of their hidden feelings—the emotions, conflicts, anxieties, joys, and happiness they carried as individual women—can become a powerful source of encouragement for many. By using "art" to convey themes rarely touched upon before, and the appeal and stories of women that have been difficult to share, we hope this becomes an opportunity to discover hints for "living true to ourselves."
Talk sessions featuring artists and women entrepreneurs will also be held. Details will be announced from time to time on the official LIBERTY OF WoVE Instagram.
■ A message from founder Kazumi Yoshida

"I'm Kazumi Yoshida, the founder and project director of this event, and CEO of EMOGRA Inc. Back in my student days, when I majored mainly in art history, I noticed—while writing my papers—that men made up well over 90% of the historical figures we learn about even in compulsory education, and that women were far too few. In terms of role models, when I was throwing myself into work after entering the workforce, I realized in my late twenties that—given the differences in our bodies, hormonal balance, the life choices around childbirth and child-rearing, and even things like menopause down the road, differences that extend across our entire life span—unless I went out and sought information myself and found my own predecessors, I would never be able to design a life that truly suited me.
Art is something born from the artist's heart, and I believe it is a field that can convey diverse perspectives and ways of thinking far more compellingly than words or text alone, together with the full range of human emotions. On the special occasion of International Women's Day, through art born from artists' wonderful perspectives, we are building this exhibition together with all of you—to increase the diversity of role models in the world, to take them apart and reassemble them, and to expand our possibilities for the better. I see this as a topic connected not only to my own personal concerns, but to many issues of our time: the recent decline in the working-age population, the falling birth rate, work-life balance, the easing of the difficulties of living, and the way gender roles have become more fluid than in the past. And as a chance for people in Japan to encounter art more closely, this time, within the framework of International Women's Day, we will carefully draw out the words of each artist."
